LEGAL ADVISOR

The District Attorney acts as the legal advisor to the County Officers regarding matters related to their duties. The District Attorney may serve as the defender or prosecutor when the County is involved in civil litigation. County Officials may call upon the District Attorney to clarify a law or request an official interpretation from the Attorney General.
 
THE CRIMINAL PROCESS
 
The District Attorney or Assistant reviews all reports from any investigative agency for the purpose of obtaining information leading to the prosecution of criminals. Once a criminal charge has been initiated, typical court hearings are: initial appearance of offender, preliminary hearing, arraignment, motion hearings, trial and sentencing.
 
BOGUS CHECK RESTITUTION PROGRAM
 
The purpose of this program is to assist citizens in Kingfisher County in the prosecution and/or collection of false or bogus checks within the limits of enabling legislation codified at 22 OK Stat. 111-115. Checks that qualify: merchandise, cash or both; labor or services; payment of rental of motor vehicles; payment of shelter, lodging or other services; payment of food, lodging, services of other accommodations at any hotel, inn, restaurant, boarding house, rooming house, motel or auto camp. Once a check qualifies for the program, money is collected through our office and returned to the merchant. Our goal is to expedite the collection of restitution as proficiently as possible. You may contact the program coordinator to assist you with the procedures.
 
VICTIM WITNESS PROGRAM
 
If you have been a victim of a crime or a witness in a criminal case, you may be asked to testify in court when the accused is prosecuted. If a criminal act has resulted in bodily injury or death, the injured person, or the surviving victim or family members of the deceased may be eligible for compensation from the Crime Victims Compensation Fund. You may contact the Victim Witness Coordinator for information regarding any assistance you may be entitled to.
